Sunday, August 31, 2008 @ 9:37 pm I will admit it: sometimes, I am ashamed of, and angry about, being Filipino. There's something about this culture of familial one-up-manship that makes parents super-inclined to And I can't even have a conversation with my mom about it because she just changes the topic when I get upset that she's making everything so much more difficult than it has to be. Like I fucking NEED to embellish my achievements to my family that in comparison has done FUCKALL (which, in all honesty, may not be their own faults, but STILL). 6 Comments. Hmm, I'm Filipino as well and the first generation of my family here in the United States and I'm not US born either. With me, my parents disagree severely with the idea of me pursuing a Liberal Arts major and push me to take a Science. I believe it to be more of a family trait than a racial one to.. promote one's children. » yourcupoftea on 2008-09-01 12:57:01 Well, I have yet to attend college, I'm in my final year of high school now. Hopefully, my parents will not "market" me to their coworkers and friends after I go to college. » yourcupoftea on 2008-09-01 01:08:03 Ah! My dad does hold specific importance over.. going to renowned school. But scholarship offers are rather crucial at the moment, including the environment. My parents and I butt heads when it comes to my desire to go to a college in Europe. Unless it's a college like Oxford, they're not too excited about the idea. I wanted to major in Psychology but due to lectures I receive on "stable employment in the future" I will probably major in Chemistry. Though.. double majoring is a possibly as well. » yourcupoftea on 2008-09-01 01:23:07 hm.. i don't hate the ethnicity, i just dislike the ethnic's culture and thinking. » renaye on 2008-09-01 01:39:23 I feel you, in a way. Everyone seemed to have got used to me getting good grades that it is like breathing to them. Keeping on placing expectations on us isn't moral support. It'll drive us nuts! » Nuttz on 2008-09-01 02:05:47 Dunno, this type of thing seems to be big with asian people in general. All the competition for crap and stuff.... » randomjunk on 2008-09-01 03:53:23
