For the bulk of the last 9 hours, I have spent my time doing the following:

- Compiling a list of about 15 potential thesis advisors for graduate school, each of whom I should contact regarding my eagerness to work with them provided I am granted admission to their respective institutions.

- Taking down all the dates of interest with regards to applications (due dates, initial filing dates, other important deadlines, etc.).

- Attempting to figure out the amount of money it will take to file all of these applications, take all the necessary tests, acquire all the necessary transcripts, and so on.

- Bookmarking important websites with crucial graduate admissions information on them.

- Vacillating between having confidence in my abilities to get into grad school (at times bordering on OVERconfidence) and losing said confidence in my abilities (often accompanied by a rush of neurotransmitters that make my heart beat quickly in a sort of mini-panic attack mode)... Must find stable ground.

I refuse to return to this computer for a little while. I have flipped on the local PBS channel and have begun to watch Mystery!, so that should get my mind off of these things for a bit...

And yet, somehow, people still wonder why I'm just a little reluctant to get older.

I can't think of PBS without thinking of Reading Rainbow. :S

that is a lot of things to do and think about. Just reading it makes my head hurt. How about you?

Well, you are such a smart guy and you WILL get into grad school. You hear me! You are smart and talented damn it!

Sheesh! :)

Some of those websites make it freaking impossible to find the relevant information. In retrospect, bookmarking them would have been a good idea. In somewhat related news, I'm thinking about applying to NSF. Do you know anything about that? I think I might be starting too late to apply for 2008. But if I wait, they might not award it to me because I'll be too old.
I had those same vacillations, by the way. I think you recall the one that culminated in my mom getting mad at me because I thought maybe I should have been applying to master's programs instead of PhD programs and I started freaking out and saying that nothing in my life ever goes right, which was patently untrue and quite unappreciated by my hard working, ever supportive, and sacrificing parental units. I also just realized that I've been spelling "vacillations" wrong in my mind for a while. Hopefully not on paper (horror!). I've been spelling it "vascillations", which, while splendid-looking, is apparently also completely wrong.
